Bringing It All Together: Reflecting on Growth and Innovation in the ADL Program

I decided to begin my ADL journey because I wanted to further develop my teaching practices and enhance my skills as an educator. I was eager to learn how to effectively integrate technology into the classroom to better engage my students and improve their learning experiences. Ultimately, my goal was to do more for my students—creating an environment that supports their growth, encourages their creativity, and prepares them for the challenges of the future.

Throughout my experience in the ADL program, I believe I am now better equipped to achieve these goals for my students. I have gained valuable knowledge and practical skills in integrating technology into my teaching, allowing me to create more engaging and dynamic learning environments. Additionally, I’ve learned to apply innovative strategies that foster student independence and adaptability. With the tools and insights I’ve gained, I am more confident in my ability to support my students’ growth and prepare them for the future.

Below, you will find the work I have created throughout the past year, showcasing my growth and the progress I've made in applying what I’ve learned.

In this course, I was tasked with analyzing my organization to identify a key challenge that I wanted to address. I then developed an innovation plan that included a detailed proposal, a literature review to support my approach, and an implementation outline for how to address the identified issue effectively. This process allowed me to apply strategic thinking and research to create a concrete plan for organizational improvement.

In this course, I explored the difference between growth mindset and fixed mindset and how they affect my learning. I looked at what strategies work best for me, what doesn’t, and how to overcome challenges I face as an educator, especially with new technologies. This course helped me understand my own mindset and how to encourage a growth mindset in my students.

In this course, I explored A New Culture of Learning and developed my personal learning philosophy. I focused on aligning learning outcomes, assessments, and activities using Fink’s 3-Column Table framework. Additionally, I studied Understanding by Design (UbD) to help structure and plan my teaching approach more effectively. This course allowed me to create a cohesive learning environment where objectives, activities, and assessments are carefully aligned to foster deeper learning and student success.

In this course, I began building my ePortfolio, which provided an excellent opportunity for authentic learning. By curating and reflecting on my work, I was able to showcase my skills, achievements, and growth in a meaningful way. This hands-on experience allowed me to demonstrate my learning journey, gain deeper insights into my strengths, and create a personalized portfolio that truly represents my professional development.

In this course, I built strategies designed to support organizational change, specifically focused on integrating blended learning into the classroom. I developed a detailed plan to implement this shift, emphasizing collaboration, persistence, and thoughtful planning. Through the course, I explored how to foster an environment of independent learners and prepare them for a tech-driven future by using blended learning approaches. I also identified key strategies to overcome challenges and ensure successful change within my organization.

In this Digital Resources course, I explored digital content creation and publication. I learned how to develop ideas into well-structured articles, as well as the editing and refining processes involved in publishing. The course also introduced me to different media formats, culminating in the creation of a podcast for my final project. A key component was the peer review process, which allowed me to collaborate with classmates and gain valuable feedback on my work. Overall, this course enhanced my writing, editing, and digital media skills while deepening my understanding of content creation and publishing.

In this course, I focused on improving professional learning for teachers by identifying the gaps in current programs. I explored how many existing professional development programs are too generic and lack continuous support during critical times, leaving teachers feeling unsupported. As a result, I developed a plan to address these issues and implement my innovation plan for blended learning in the classroom. This course allowed me to create a more targeted approach to professional development, ensuring that teachers receive the ongoing support they need to successfully integrate blended learning into their teaching practices.

In this course, I created a blended learning course on Canvas focused on writing. I collaborated with others in my organization to gather feedback and refine the course content, ensuring it was engaging and effective for our students. Through this process, I was able to incorporate best practices for blended learning while making adjustments based on input from colleagues, ultimately creating a course that best meets the needs of our learners.

In this course, I gained a deeper understanding of Action Research and its importance in education. Action research allows teachers to reflect on their practices, make improvements, and assess their impact in real-time. By following a cycle of planning, action, observation, and reflection, educators can continuously refine their teaching methods. This approach also helped me refine my innovation plan, enabling me to adapt and improve strategies to better meet my students' needs.

In this final course, I reflected on the work I’ve done throughout the year and updated my innovation plan. I assessed my progress, reviewed where I stand in the plan’s implementation, and discussed my experience with COVA (Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authenticity) throughout the program. This course allowed me to evaluate my growth, refine my approach, and ensure that I am on track to successfully implement my innovation plan.

At the end of this course, I had the chance to revisit and update my innovation plan with all the knowledge I’ve gained over the year. This process has been both exciting and insightful. I’m now able to refine my approach by adding new strategies and tools learned in the ADL program, such as the latest educational technologies and best practices. I’ve also taken into account feedback from colleagues and peers. By updating my plan, I aim to improve student engagement and success, making sure my efforts stay relevant and effective. I’m excited to put these updates into action and continue making a positive impact in my classroom.

When I first encountered the COVA approach, I was initially intimidated. Having never experienced anything like it before, I felt unsure about what was expected of me and how to navigate this new way of learning. This was the first course where assignments weren’t just tasks to check off a list, but rather opportunities to create something authentic that I had to develop on my own. The shift from traditional, structured assignments to this more open-ended approach was a challenge at first, but it ultimately pushed me to think more creatively and take ownership of my learning in ways I hadn’t anticipated.

Throughout my journey in Applied Digital Learning, I’ve come to realize how empowering the COVA model is. It has allowed me to express my voice, engage in meaningful experiences, and take control of my learning. Reflecting on this experience, I see how effective COVA is in promoting deeper learning and increasing student engagement. I’m excited to bring this approach into my own classroom, offering my students the chance to take charge of their learning and build the crucial skills they need for success.
